Integrating Organisations 

Hands up if you have ever been ‘Mogged’ or restructured? 

Hands up if you loved the experience? 

Not many people do, but it doesn’t have to be an ordeal – and it doesn’t have to take forever. 

We have helped multiple teams through their MOGS and restructures – most often with three significant, and not always aligned, entities being required to merge. We’ve definitely learned a few things along the way. Here are some of our Golden Rules: 

Golden Rule 1: Land that new vision – this is your anchor and your north star. Teams need to understand why they are being asked to join together, and motivated to do so by the articulated benefits that can only be realised when the parts come together.

Golden Rule 2: Communicate – the more we invest in good communication – at strategic and operations levels – the better everything goes. We don’t mean ‘tell people what’s happening’, we mean ‘listen to what they are thinking, feeling, and appreciate that these are real for each person and need to be considered in your communication and change planning’ – and of course make sure you keep them well informed through channels that work for them. 

Golden Rule 3: Engage – our role is to help the separate teams come together to build their new single team. And while we bring the expertise across functional review, organisational design, team restructure, process redesign, change management and communication – these can only be their best if we draw on the teams’ depth of knowledge about how things can best work. We know that engagement is a key that unlocks the best solutions, ones that work and ones the teams fully support. 

Golden Rule 4: Be disciplined project managers – there is always so much to do in organisational change – and it’s important that everything gets done, because loose ends are bad for morale and sustainability. Strong project management covers this base, it’s important.
